Back in the early 60s there was a helicopter transfer available from Essendon Airport to the city and back for those that required it. The helicopter was always kept overnight at the TAA hangars and in the mornings some apprentices would plead with the helicopter pilot to jump on board for a quick ride to the terminal.
On a nice day us apprentices could always be found having lunch in the park opposite the terminal car park, drooling at the hostesses as they walked by on their way to the terminal.
I also met my second wife at the Cockpit Disco within the terminal in 1979!
In total I spent 25 years working at Essendon Airport and the memories are treasured. Oh the memories.
We'll be sharing your stories throughout the centenary year across the Essendon Fields website, social media and other channels.
