My dad Anthony Pesavento left for Italy from Essendon Airport in 1970.

It was a huge event. My mum (Maria/Mary) even had her hair done for the day!

Dad had never flown before, having arrived by boat back in 1952 for an adventure in this new country. A country where he fell in love, raised a family, and stayed right up until his death in 2016.

Dad’s mum was sick and was calling of him, so it was for this reason he flew over with my uncle.

It was only a short trip away but I think my eldest brother Frank was really worried. The picture below shows all of us here with my other brother Robert seeing dad off.

What today would be within the reach of many people was a massive feat for my parents.
